Summertime Eye NourishmentJun 26, 2023
Do your eyes tend to get irritated and more inflamed in the summertime?
If you answered “yes” to that question, you are not alone. Summer is the season of Pitta dosha, where fire element is predominant. One of the organs of Pitta is the eyes, comprising the Alochaka Pitta subdosha. Alochaka pitta is the energy of fire that digests light and visual impressions and allows us the ability to see.
This means that the eyes will have a tendency to get more irritated (dry, tired, hot, and/or sensitive) because the Pitta gets elevated in response to the hot weather.
The eyes may be more sensitive to intense light, overworking at a computer, heat inducing foods, alcohol, and caffeine during the warmer months. This is because all of these things elevate Pitta, when Pitta is already elevated in the environment.
In the Heartfelt Wellbeing community we pride ourselves on learning skills to balance with the wisdom of opposites, tuning into the seasons as we journey through the year. This allows us to know how we can best support our health and happiness.
Today, I have a treat for your eyes. I gave a talk last week about eye oiling that I hope you will take the opportunity to listen/watch the video linked above. I even demonstrate how it is done. You can check it out and try it for yourself here.
Eye oiling is a simple Ayurvedic technique that cools, calms, and moisturizes the eyes.
Give a listen to what I have to share in this video and let me know what you think.
