I am going to keep preaching the wisdom of the seasons because when the seasons change, we need to change too! It makes a huge difference in how you feel (body mind and spirit).

Amidst all that is going on in our world, there is enough suffering. Why not at least make sure you are doing what you can to decrease you own struggles and orient each day toward feeling AWESOME?

Today, I am sharing some simple Autumn Lifestyle Hacks.

Read on, especially if you are feeling cold, anxious, tired, scattered, overwhelmed, or having trouble sleeping.

Autumn is the beginning of VATA Season, comprised of the elements Air and Ether (Space). The qualities of Vata are cold, dry, light, mobile, subtle and rough. These qualities can show up in a variety of ways: Dry skin, constipation, anxiety, increased creativity, desire to let go of routine, stronger intuition, gas, bloating, insomnia, and spaciness. Understanding Ayurveda allows us to navigate the changes that come along with the seasons. If done well, we remain grounded, nourished, healthy, and energetic. Here are some great lifestyle tips for Vata Season:

  • Dial in your schedule. Keep a routine for when you sleep, eat, exercise, and work every day. The more structure you have, the less overwhelm and anxiety you will have.

  • Use nasya oil (nose oil) to avoid affects of dry air and coat nasal hairs to catch germs and irritants, calms the mind and awakens breath. You can buy it or just use sesame oil.

  • Meditate to connect with yourself and a greater whole. Practice being still before the sunrise to ground your energy and awareness for the day.

  • Keep warm - wear layers, sleep under more blankets, wear scarves.

  • Create cozy times of your day, nourish your creativity. Take hot baths, or showers in the evening. Carve out time for creative projects.

  • Massage sesame oil on the soles of your feet before bed.

  • Go to sleep before 10pm, or earlier if you can.

  • Eat warming spices (cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, ginger, black pepper, cumin, basil and mustard seed).

  • Eat one pot meals of seasonal foods. When everything is cooked together = easy to digest.
