Early Bird Ending & Spring Veggies
Apr 12, 2026
Spring is a season of renewal, awakening, and fresh starts. After the heaviness and stillness of Winter, nature begins to soften, bloom, and come alive again, and so do we. This is the perfect time to gently reset, clear out stagnation, and nourish your body in ways that feel light, energizing, and supportive. (Cheers to you if you are feeling these affects from the Detox, we enter week 3 tomorrow!!)
One of the most beautiful ways to align with each season is through the foods we eat. Spring vegetables naturally support the body’s desire to detoxify and rebalance. According to Ayurveda, this time of year is governed by Kapha dosha (Earth & Water), which evokes the qualities of heaviness, dampness, and sluggishness. To counterbalance this, we want to eat more foods that are light, slightly bitter, astringent, and stimulating.
Here are some of the best spring vegetables to include in your meals:
Leafy greens (spinach, kale, swiss chard, arugula) – help cleanse the blood and support digestion. Check out my massaged kale salad recipe!
Asparagus – a natural diuretic that supports detoxification. Check out my asparagus with millet recipe!
Broccoli & Cauliflower – light, fibrous, and great for clearing excess Kapha
Radishes – pungent and stimulating, they help awaken digestion
Artichokes – support liver function and bile flow
Peas – slightly sweet but still light and easy to digest
Dandelion, Nettles, and Chickweed - these wild greens are cleansing to the liver, and deeply nourishing to the blood (do not collect them near roadsides or in areas that are sprayed). Check out my wild greens pesto recipe!
These vegetables are not just “in season” agriculturally; they’re in season for your body's optimal wellbeing. Ayurveda teaches us that nature provides exactly what we need, exactly when we need it. Spring foods help clear out the buildup from Winter and prepare us for a more vibrant, energized state.
This seasonal shift is also especially important during menopause, a time of profound transition in the body. Just like Spring, this phase invites you to release what no longer serves you and create space for a new way of being. When you begin to align your lifestyle and nutrition with the rhythms of nature, you support your body through this transition with more ease, balance, and vitality.
I hope you have a great week ahead of you.
