Get Back On Track After Thanksgiving
Nov 30, 2025
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Can you believe that December starts tomorrow? Wow!
Right now, we are rounding the bend into the last month of 2025. If your eating habits feel a bit derailed by the recent Thanksgiving holiday, read on, I am here to help you gently get back on track to have an aligned relationship with yourself this month!
Do you ever find yourself reaching for snacks even when you’re not truly hungry… and then feeling guilty afterward? You’re not alone. So many of us struggle with this, especially during perimenopause and menopause, when our digestion, hormones, and cravings become more variable and shift in new ways. The holidays can present new challenges.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, frequent snacking can actually confuse digestion. Our stomach is designed to fully process one meal before the next is received— but when we graze in between, the gut doesn’t get a chance to rest and reset, nevermind fully digest the food you've already eaten. This can lead to bloating, sluggish digestion, craving more food, or feeling ungrounded in our energy.
But here’s the good news: habits can change, and with changing habits, health can improve.
With awareness, small shifts, and a whole lot of gentleness and self-compassion, it’s completely possible to reset your relationship with food.
Instead of snacks, try warm teas, hot spiced water, or mindful breathing between meals to help the body reset (avoid cold or carbonated beverages as they weaken your digestive fire).
When you do truly want a snack, choose something warm, simple, and nourishing (like stewed fruit or spiced milk) instead of something cold or processed. And, notice if the previous meal wasn't nourishing enough or if you are actually tired.
Digestion takes a lot of energy. The less often your body has to focus on digestion throughout the day, the better. Three times, with 3-5 hours in between is generally great.
Most importantly — be gentle with yourself. This isn’t about strict rules or punishing guilt. It’s about finding a rhythm that actually makes you feel better, stronger, clearer and more vibrant. Breaking habits takes time, but it’s 100% possible — and more rewarding than you think. Every step you take is an act of care for your future self. It's a different form of nourishment. Once you experience how good you can feel when you body can focus on other things besides digesting food, you will wonder how you ever lived differently.
Try it for yourself this week and let me know how it goes.
