Father Sun & Father's Day
Jun 15, 2025
Today, Father's Day, less than a week away from the Summer Solstice, is an opportunity for us to look at the energy of the Father Sun and how this bright celestial body informs our lives. Ideally, healthy masculine fathering energy provides, guides, and protects us.
Traditionally, the Moon is seen as feminine while the Sun is seen as masculine. The summer is when the bright focus of the Sun impacts us the most.
Here are some considerations for this time of the year, applying the intentions of alignment with father sun in a harmonious relationship as we move fully into Pitta Season (Summer):
- Avoid mid-day sun. Get outside in the early morning or evening to receive the more cooling spectrum of light which actually helps with hormonal balance!
- Eat lighter foods. During the long days of summer agni (digestive fire) actually decreases with the intensity of the heat, but pitta increases (think hot flashes, irritability, rashes, and loose stools). This requires a bit of a balancing act of not irritating pitta while also not over-taxing the agni. Eat more vegetables (cooked is great) and less grains and animal proteins, especially in the evening.
- Eat a pinch or two of dry roasted fennel seeds after meals to support comfortable digestion.
- Let the light nourish you - we don't need as much food during the summer if we are connecting to nature because we are actually "fed" by the sunlight. It supports our mood, energy, and focus without having to take in as much food.
Blessings to all the amazing fathers out there in the world. I am grateful to have a stellar dad, Rob Levin, and to be partnered with one too, David Grimsley.
May we be nourished as we navigate personal, communal, and planetary evolution. May beings everywhere be safe, happy, and well.
