Sowing Seeds This Autumn
Oct 27, 2026
Your daily diet and lifestyle are part of the foundation for navigating menopause, whether you are 35 or 75, with greater balance, energy, and resilience.
As women, we may experience changes in sleep, weight, mood, or simply how we feel in our bodies. It’s easy to feel frustrated when the things that used to work for us no longer seem to work the same way.
It can be easy to see our hormones or our bodies as the problem, but we can also look at these changes as an opportunity to listen and realign.
Ayurveda offers simple ways to support ourselves by living in better rhythm with our changing needs.
A few practices to begin with:
- Include beneficial fats like avocado, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and ghee as part of a nourishing, balanced diet. Avoid processed oils that create oxidative stress like corn, canola, cottonseed, soy, sunflower, rice bran, grape seed, and peanut oils.
- Create a daily rhythm. Keep consistent times for waking (before the sunrise), sleeping (asleep by 10pm), eating (have real meals, not snacks), and moving your body.
- Make lunch a nourishing meal. Ayurveda traditionally emphasizes midday as an important time for digestion as the digestive power follows the solar energy of each day.
- Move your body regularly. Walking, yoga, strength training, or other movement you enjoy can support your well-being through not only building muscle but supporting optimal hormonal balance.
- Prioritize sleep. Aim for consistent, restorative sleep (at least 10pm-6am) and create an evening routine that helps you wind down (off screens, soft lighting, gentle connections with your space and other people).
- Notice how sugar, alcohol, and caffeine affect you. Consider reducing them as they interfere with your sleep and energy more and more as you age.
Start with one practice from the suggestions above, notice how you feel, and give yourself time to discover what works for you. Small, consistent changes can be easier to sustain over time.
Our bodies go through a lot of changes in midlife, and our needs change with them. We can learn to listen, respond with care, and find new ways to thrive in this stage of life.
Here's to feeling more vibrant, connected, and alive in all the years to come!
